How it works

Pay your monthly membership fee, and get your pet's medical costs covered. Use any vet, anywhere. We can reimburse you, or pay your vet directly if the bill is $1,000 or above.

This is not pet insurance. We are a 501(c) 3 nonprofit dedicated to helping animals. Our goal is to get your pet the medical help they need for their illnesses and injuries.

Program age limits

Currently, your dog can join the program until he/she is 5 years old (if your dog is older, please check back later). You can always keep a Membership for the rest of your pet's life after joining.

We show you the Membership fees for your pet at all ages in the interest of full transparency. All Membership fees are adjusted annually, so you should not expect to pay exactly the above fees.

Annual PPR

Your Personal Payment Responsibility or “PPR” is the amount of pet medical costs you are responsible for paying each year before you are eligible for reimbursement.

For Example:
Our Standard Membership has an annual PPR of $500. That means you pay the first $500 in medical costs for any illnesses or injuries your pet experiences each year. After that, our reimbursement program kicks in.

Best for

With a low annual PPR of $500, Standard Memberships help you pay for most significant unexpected medical costs your pet experiences.

Emergency Memberships have a higher annual PPR of $2,500. This is designed to help you with just the bigger unexpected medical costs, as they crop up.

Pre-existing conditions

Yes! Pre-existing conditions are eligible for reimbursement. For each year you keep your pet membership, we give you:

  • An additional 10% reimbursement on pre-existing conditions, up to 90% total, and

  • An additional $1,000 in annual reimbursements for pre-existing conditions, up to $10,000 annually.

That means  after you have your membership for 1 year, you get 10% of your pre-existing condition costs reimbursed, up to a maximum $1,000 for the year. Those numbers increase each year.

Your annual Personal Payment Responsibility still applies only once per year.

Unlimited reimbursements

Once you have a Membership, your pet gets unlimited reimbursements on any condition that comes up.
When you join, these waiting periods apply:

  • 30 days for accidents and illnesses, and

  • 30 days for Wellness Budget, and

  • 1 year for orthopedic conditions.

There are no annual, per-condition, or lifetime limits on your pet medical costs.

There are also no maximum per-item cost limits on the products or services your pet receives.

All conditions eligible

All your pet's conditions are eligible for reimbursement - nothing has been singled out in the fine print. Here are some examples of hard-to-cover conditions we reimburse you for:

  • Inherited conditions.

  • "Bi-lateral" conditions, like getting a ligament tear on one leg after having it on the other leg previously.

  • "Related" illnesses or injuries, like when a medicine for one condition causes another condition.

  • Skin and ear conditions.

Wellness Budget

Standard Memberships include a Wellness Budget to pay for preventative and routine pet medical costs. Each month we add funds into your Wellness Budget. For example, every month we add $25, giving you a total of $300 annually.

The Wellness Budget is separate from your Personal Payment Responsibility, so you can use these benefits as you need them. Wellness Budget funds roll over for as long as the Pet Membership is maintained continuously.

Change Membership level

You can downgrade from a Standard Membership to an Emergency Membership after you join.

However, you can't upgrade from an Emergency Membership to a Standard Membership, so please choose wisely.

Membership fee increases

We show you the current membership fees for your pet at every age, so you have an idea of how Membership fees increase as pets age.

All Membership Fees are adjusted annually. How much? The simple truth is, we don't know that in advance.

We monitor the financial needs of the program, and respond as needed. A perfect example is the COVID-19 pandemic: No one could have predicted it, nor the big price hikes it caused.

As a 501(c) 3 nonprofit, we can promise to stay committed to giving your pet the best benefits available, at the lowest cost to you.

Your part of the pet medical costs

You are always responsible for the following pet medical costs:

  • Your annual Personal Payment Responsibility.

  • Also, 10% of your pet's total pet medical costs. We reimburse the remaining 90%.

  • Lastly, Any exam fees.

That's it. There are no administrative or sign-up fees to join, and no hidden fees later on.
